In mid-November a story I had submitted to the prestigious Writers of the Future contest received an Honorable Mention.
This contest is a well-known one in the world of speculative fiction. This is a career-making contest when a person wins. Although there are several stories above mine in quality, this contest receives so many entries every quarter that to receive any shout-out or recognition is a big deal.
Remember back in July when I wrote that post about a story I had written for an anthology, and the editor responded that I had completely disregarded the guidelines? And how it hit me how subjective writing is and that my interpretation was entirely different from the editors’?
This is that story.
I was so proud of it that I felt it deserved a home somewhere. And this contest seemed to be a good fit. So that was my first submission. Although it clearly didn’t win, it does give me the confidence to continue to shop it around to hopefully find it a permanent home.
Keep writing, friends. Keep writing. That’s the way to “make it” in this industry.
